Tips to Keep Relationship Alive

Tips to Keep Relationship AliveLearn that punishing your partner won’t work. It may make you feel better to give him a hard time, but it will actually make him dig his heels in more. A better tactic is to reward the things you like and ignore what you don’t like.

Money is the number one cause of couple conflict. For a relationship to work, you need to address your finances and work out a budget.

If the domestic work is not divided fairly between you, it will cause friction in your relationship. Make a list of the domestic tasks, talk it through with your partner and mobilise the whole family, your partner included, to share the work.

If you have children, involve your partner as much as possible with the childcare — even if you feel he’s not as good as it at you are. It’s important to present a united front to your children.

Sort out your sex life. The sex may ebb and flow over the years, but if sex starts going downhill, don’t just accept it. As soon as you notice a slide, question why and then work at bringing the passion back.

Don’t assume you won’t be tempted to have an affair as almost everyone is. You need to learn to resist. If you do stray, don’t feel it spells the end of your relationship. Most couples recover, particularly from a one-night-stand, and often find that unrooting the cause of the affair helps them to get even closer. So, you need to learn to resist. But don’t think that an affair is the end of everything.

Remember that boredom typically covers up anger. If you feel bored with him, ask yourself what you’re angry about.

Be aware that men generally feel overwhelmed by emotion more than women do. If he’s angry or tearful, half an hour’s ‘unflooding’ time to himself will help get his balance back and make him more able to interact positively with you.

Tips For Charming Home Interiors

Tips For Charming Home InteriorsOne antique item in your living room can become a conversation piece. Here are some tips for your home

Greenery makes a big difference. Opt for real plants as far as possible. Do not throw away your old furniture just because it looks drab. Change the upholstery or see if it can be combined with a few new items for a totally revamped look

Ensure your furniture is comfortable and goes with the room’s decor. A coat of varnish regularly will go a long way in maintaining furniture. Never let stains remain for a long time. Clean them as soon as possible and ensure you don’t use strong detergents in delicate areas

Make sure damp spots are attended to immediately. They can ruin paint. Make sure different items of decor match in colour Never paint just one part of a wall. Paint the entire wall if required. Keep fabrics used in decor free of dust always. Wash all fabrics together always. This ensures they remain uniform in colour

Get some rustic elegance indoors

Modern homes are a norm today. But to give your home a different ambience, try the rustic look. You can opt for beiges, browns or greens. Cream walls create a clean, plain background and lift the whole room. For a traditional touch, you can merge the colours with shades of olive or deep leafy colours teamed with browns and grays in different tones. You can also use woven or knitted fabrics to get the rustic look. Mix rough surfaces with plenty of soft fabrics. Accessories like a cane lampshade can also create a magical effect. Choose upholstery with a textured weave, sofas and chairs made of cane and toss around dark coloured cushions to give the room that cozy feeling. Ethnic furniture in wicker or rattan also suits the textured look.

What’s the key to successful relationships?

What’s the key to successful relationships?Without quality time, your relationship will not survive. Carve out at least half an hour a night, and at least one day a month when you the two of you spend time exclusively together.

You will both need security and comfort. A good relationship is built on compromise and a great deal of give and take on both sides.

Keep your dependence and independence in balance. Tell and show your partner how much you need him, but don’t cling, as that can make your partner feel trapped. Encourage him to listen to you, by showing appreciation when he does. By the same token, show interest when he talks to you. Be aware that most men aren’t mentally programmed for conversation in the way women are. They need more silence and internal time.

Make him appreciate you. Don’t wait for a spontaneous compliment, but say something good about yourself and ask for his agreement.

Teach him, preferably early in your relationship, exactly how to give you a fail-safe orgasm because it’s unlikely he’ll find out alone. If you don’t yet know yourself, find out.

Learn to do the one thing that is most likely to restore good feeling in your relationship like giving your partner a genuine, loving and approving smile.

Often those subtle quirks that first attracted you to your partner can, with time, turn around and become toecurlingly annoying habits. Learn to love him.

Hidden resentments poison a relationship; so if something bothers you, say it. Remember that while men are wary of emotional conversations, they love to find solutions. Express your problem and then ask him to help you find the answer.

Tips on how to buy the right tie?

Tips on how to buy the right tie?Don’t know how to buy the right tie? Follow these tips...

COLOURS:

‘In’ colours: Black, white, lilac and pink.

Stripes dominate men’s classic dressing. The ‘candystriped’ tie is a must-have.

Open minimals, solid structures and checks will continue to be old favourites .

WHAT TO WEAR:

Navy and maroon ties suit the corporate style.

Try the bolder and more vibrant shades of tangerine, lilac and pink for distinguished evenings.

At least one colour in your tie must match your suit, shirt, belt or shoes.

Avoid wearing a striped tie with a striped shirt and a pinstriped suit.

HOW TO BUY:

The proper width of a tie is 3.5 to 3.75 inches.

Standard neckties come in lengths of 54 to 58 inches.

After being tied, the tip of the necktie should reach the waistband of the trousers.

All premium ties have full loops, meant for sliding the back piece or tail of the tie.

TIE CARE:

Always untie your tie completely after wear.

When your tie is not in use, straighten it out completely and hang it. This will allow the heavy creases to ease out naturally.

Don’t get your necktie dry-cleaned.

Here is a healthy diet for the cold months

Here is a healthy diet for the cold monthsEat plenty of vegetables in the form of clear soups, boiled or baked. Salads though healthy might not be tempting in the cold season

A couple of fruits everyday are needed

Hot brown rice, whole wheat toast, hot phulkas, warm pasta, oats or ragi porridge will make a sumptuous carbohydrate dish

Include whole pulses like rajma, moong and channa because they are filling and nutritious

You can keep yourself warm with herbal teas. If needed, use minimal amounts of honey to sweeten the herbal teas

Include spices and nuts in the diet. Nuts are filling and nutrient-packed. Alternative therapists believe that some spices like pepper, ginger and garlic give warmth to the body and are useful in winter

Luke warm water is a nice way to make sure your water requirement is met and you don’t shiver

Stay away from fried foods and rich desserts. Even if you get tempted to snack on hot bondas, make sure you burn off the calorie loads by adequate exercise

Alcohol and caffeine have a mild dehydrating effect. Don’t overload yourselves with these beverages in order to keep warm

Your Kid Needs Good Sleep

Your Kid Needs Good SleepNot getting enough sleep can slow kids down in more ways than one. Here are some tips to catch up on the ‘z’s

Dictate lights out

When parents set the bedtime, kids require an average of 45 minutes more sleep per night than they decide for themselves, a recent Nemours Foundation/KidsHealth national poll found. Parents should continue to set bedtime through middle school and even high school. Once you decide on a time, be consistent.

Practice time management

Getting your child to bed should be taken just as seriously as getting her to school each morning. Schedule homework and dinner early to keep snooze time from slipping away. Reruns of favourite TV programmes that air past bedtime can be watched later.

Designate one day of the week as stayup-late night

If you’d like to watch a long movie with your child or enjoy another bedtime activity, do it on Friday —then get back on track Saturday and Sunday. We all have biological clocks that reset themselves every day. If you let your child stay up late and sleep late all weekend, you’ve reset her clock ahead by several hours. She won’t sleep well Sunday night, and she'll start the week with a sleep gap.

Stress Management Technique

stress management techniqueFILTERING: You had a great day at work and have completed your tasks ahead of the deadline, but you made a minor mistake at some point during the day. That evening, you focus will be only your mistakes. Avoid doing this.

PERSONALISING: When something bad happens, you automatically blame yourself. For example, you hear that an evening out with friends is cancelled and you assume that the change in plans is because no one wanted to be around you.

CATASTROPHISING: This happens when you always anticipate the worst. You refuse to go out with people for fear that you’ll make a fool of yourself. Or one change in your daily routine leads you to think the day will be a disaster. This can be very stressful.

POLARISING: You see things only as either good or bad, or black and white. You feel that you have to be perfect or you’re a total failure. This attitude impedes your adjustment levels and so, only increases stress levels.

These are automatic self-thoughts, which can be positive or negative. It’s draining and unhealthy to have negative thoughts running through your head most of the time.
